Castlevania: Bloodlines (1997)
Bloodlines is an awful Castlevania game. It doesn’t have anything to do with the Belmonts, and just everything about the game itself is just boring and ugly. The music was ok, but nothing that was memorable or really stuck in my mind.
What was cool was the ability to choose between two characters, each with a strength and weakness. John Morris is more powerful, but a short reach, meaning you have to get uncomfortably close to enemies, but Eric has a spear that reaches longer distances, but it is slower to swing and doesn’t do as much damage. I opted for John Morris and went on my way.
While traversing through the castle I came across a lot of very familiar enemies from the series. Which I understand, but I really would like some variety at this point. Knowing that later iterations still use the same handful of enemies, it’s bordering on laziness to not come up with several new characters. Although to Bloodlines credit, it does have a few enemies that are new and don’t show up anywhere else (Even though they are stupid and silly designs that aren’t menacing at all)
Honestly I don’t have much to say about Bloodlines other than it more or less wasted my time. It was boring, not very fun or creative and just was kinda a slog to get through. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless you are hardcore wanting to play through the series.
