Question Of The Week [July 3rd 2024]
Q: What was a game you wanted, but never got?
A: Back in 1997, during the summer, I went to visit a lot of my dad’s side of the family out in Iowa. I was just old enough to get on a plane by myself and travel across the country to spend a couple weeks with extended family. One of my uncles was into things that really interested me, like video games, funny and action movies and even tried getting me into games like Warhammer or Magic the Gathering card games. I remember he sat me down and tried to teach me some tabletop gaming and even let me paint one of his figurines for the tabletop game too.
One of the video games he let me play, which was on his PC, was a car game called Interstate ‘76. Taking place in the mid 1970’s, but in an alternate history when everything was a near post-apocalyptic nightmare. I remember the cars driving around, shooting whoever got in their way and talking up a storm with fun cutscenes and in-game dialog. Once I got home, it was a game I begged and begged my parents to get me. But they told me our computer couldn’t handle it. It wasn’t until later that we were able to upgrade to a much better computer that could handle it, but by that time I moved on to other games.
I will always remember my uncle and showing me Interstate ‘76, and even to this day, I’ve never given it a proper chance. Mostly downloading it a couple times, running it for like 5 minutes before shutting it off and never finishing the first mission. It’s always been more of a curiosity than anything else. Maybe one day soon I’ll devote some time to actually playing it on stream!
